Getting rich is a learned behavior.

Have you ever noticed or should I say contemplated the fact the rich families seem to stay rich for decades and then some. It is not always true but it is not uncommon. At first you might suppose that the money from one generation feeds the next, and you would be correct. But it is not the complete answer nor the inevitable one. What people learn growing up in rich families and the mentoring they get is the far more important reality.

Often we hear in the news how an actor, a lottery winner or a sports celebrity has lost or burned through all their immense earnings. The problem wasn't the income but rather the lack of knowledge and willingness to stay rich. These people never learned how to get rich or stay that way. This further attest to the fact that getting rich is a learned behavior.

I wrote “Think Rich” (in the articles section) and this web site for this very reason. If getting rich is a learned behavior, then anyone can do it. I hold myself out as prove that it can be done. My family background was of a large, poor, family of hard working people. I am not in the super rich category. But I do have the income that it would take $2.5 to $3 million in savings to generate. Most importantly I get to do what I want when I want.

The point is that getting rich or richer is a learned behavior and you can do just that.

I heard an interesting statistic on the radio today. I am paraphrasing so my apologizes to the original author. If you take the average of all your friends incomes, your income over the years will end up withing 10% of that average. Two things come to mind.? Are the people I am hanging out with in the income bracket I want to be in? And am I hanging out with enough rich folks?

Just food for thought.
