Rental equipment dreams

By Anonymous - Posted on 14 October 2008

As I was driving home last night Iremembered a news Item On the Sunday morning news show about a utility contractor who went out of business because of slowing real estate development and the declining economic conditions. His equipment was being auctioned off. It occurred to me that it would be a wonderful time to pick up used heavy construction equipment cheap. If someone had a lot of cash they could buy $50,000 back hoes, $100,000 graders, fork lifts, and all manner of construction equipment, for 15% to 20% on the dollar, what with at all the construction equipment auctions coming up over the next two years.

This business could set up shop in just about any state. Renting equipment to companies wanting to reduce their cost of doing business, or to people needing equipment that can not get financing. There is always business if you are selling price. You could tell your salesmen to ask the potential customers what they where paying now or what they paid last time they rented equipment and cut that price by 20%. That is your whole sales pitch, you are selling price because you have the lowest overhead.

There will be, or are plenty of ex-employees of rental companies out on the street looking for work, so getting experienced help is not a problem. As I drive by rental equipment yards, I see they are filling up with returned equipment. Sooner or later the banks will make them auction it off.

Well, its a nice dream if one just had a million or two laying around they could make a million or three.
